FEBRUARY 1964
WQAM 560 RADIO
MIAMI, FLORIDA
"FABULOUS 56 MUSIC SURVEY" FLYER
AUTOGRAPHED ON "BEATLES DOMINATED"
CHART LIST BY
SIGNED FEBRUARY 21, 1964
DEAUVILLE HOTEL, MIAMI, FLORIDA
AFTER AN EXCITING BUT GRUELING WEEK IN THE FRIGID
NORTHEAST CITIES OF NEW YORK AND WASHINGTON, D.C. ,
the beatles left the plaza hotel in new york for the final
time shortly after lunch on thursday february 13,
to catch a 1:30 pm flight to miami. they were TO ENJOY A
WEEK OF RELAXATION in sunny florida and to
also appear live on the ed sullivan show on sunday
the 16th from the deauville hotel.
the group's arrival on the 13th was broadcast live
on
miami radio station wqam. the tape reveals the crowd chanting
"we want the beatles" over and over again in anticipation.
disc jockey charlie murdock described the scene as
"almost frightening". fellow dj jack sorbi was both excited
and apprehensive. "this is getting to be a little bit too much."
THEN ON FRIDAY FEBRUARY 21, two weeks after arriving in
america, the beatles
begun preparations for their trip back home.
because their flight from miami to new york was not
until late afternoon, the group easily had time for a farewell
interview with jack milman of radio station wqam.
the interview took place at the deauville hotel and
consisted of the boys thanking everybody who made
their trip to miami so successful and enjoyable.
it was following this very interview and just prior
to
their return to london, the beatles had signed this marvelous
6½"
X 4¼" wqam 560 "fabulous 56 survey" flyer -
"south florida's first and only official music survey".

since music survey sheets were printed a week to
ten days
prior to the "week ending" date, this february 29, 1964 edition
was "hot off the presses" directly from wqam
AND PRESENTED TO THE BOYS TO SIGN.
the signatures are brilliant and bold, autographed
across
the survey chart side in matching blue ballpoint pen.

this is the very first music survey chart SIGNED BY
THE BEATLES TO HAVE EVER SURFACED TO DATE -
AND IT IS A CHART DOMINATED BY THE BEATLES.
THEY HELD THE TOP THREE POSITIONS :
"SHE LOVES YOU" ISSUED BY SWAN RECORDS,
CAPITOL'S "I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND"
AND VEE-JAY'S "PLEASE PLEASE ME".
MGM'S "MY BONNIE" EVEN MADE THE NUMBER 13 SPOT.
ALSO MAKING THE CHART, RANKED #1 BY REQUESTS WERE
"ALL MY LOVING" AND "THAT BOY" FROM THE
CAPITOL LP ALBUM "MEET THE BEATLES", AND
"DO YOU WANT TO KNOW A SECRET" AND "TWIST AND SHOUT"
FROM VEE-JAY'S LP "INTRODUCING THE BEATLES".
IN ADDITION, TWO BEATLE RELATED
NOVELTY SONGS HELD SPOTS 26 AND 29 AS WELL.
ALSO, TAKE NOTICE THAT THE FOUR BEATLES SONGS AND
THE GROUP'S NAME ARE TYPED IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS -
PRESUMABLY IN HONOR OF THEIR VISIT TO MIAMI :

EACH OF THE
SIGNATURES ARE GORGEOUS,
UNRUSHED AND DELIBERATE, WITH DEEP IMPRESSIONS.

THIS
IS WITHOUT A DOUBT, A MOST REMARKABLE
BEATLES AUTOGRAPH PIECE - AND THE VERY FIRST OF
ITS TYPE THAT HAS EVER SURFACED.
THE FLYER
IS BEIGE IN COLOR AND REMAINS IN MOST EXCELLENT
CONDITION, SHOWING THE MOST MINIMAL OF WEAR OR AGING.
ORIGINALLY, THE FLYER WAS DISTRIBUTED FOLDED
LIKE A BOOKLET, PRESENTING THE "wqAM 560 " TITLE PAGE
ON THE FRONT, THE SURVEY DISPLAYED IN THE CENTER WHEN OPENED,
AND THE DEE-JAYS ON THE BACK PAGE. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT WHEN
THE SIGNATURES WERE PUT DOWN, THE FLYER WAS NEVER
FOLDED AGAIN, FOR THE CENTER FOLD DOES NOT DISRUPT
OR INTERRUPT ANY OF THE AUTOGRAPHS IN ANY MANNER,
IN PARTICULAR THOSE OF GEORGE OR JOHN.

IN
ORDER TO AVOID ANOTHER AIRPORT MOB-SCENE, DETAILS
OF THE BEATLES DEPARTURE WERE KEPT SECRET FROM THE
PUBLIC. WQAM 560 AND OTHER MIAMI RADIO STATIONS COOPERATED
WITH THE PLAN AND DID NOT BROADCAST FLIGHT INFORMATION.
THE BEATLES BOARDED THEIR FLIGHT FROM MIAMI IN RELATIVE OBSCURITY.
ACCOMPANIED BY
LIFETIME LETTER OF AUTHENTICITY FROM
FRANK CAIAZZO
&
FAB 4 COLLECTIBLES
ALSO
INCLUDES A LETTER OF PROVENANCE FROM THE family
of the ORIGINAL recipient of the autographs.
