the beatles' second and final appearance at this venue,
was a long-arranged date which brian epstein
would have preferred to cancel but he would not renege upon.
 also on the bill was the opening act, a local combo from birmingham
called denny and the diplomats,  led by denny laine,
future member of the moody blues and, eventually,
paul mccartney's post-beatles group, wings.

it was the only time denny's band opened for the beatles,
and here in staffordshire on july 5, 1963 was most likely where
the beatles had signed the reverse of this 4½" X 3½"
promotional photo of the opening act.

the autographs are in matching blue ballpoint pen with bold,
DARK strokes. the highlight of the set is george harrison
adding "the beatles" above his name at the top of the page.

the condition of the photo remains in FINE condition,
with a slight crease in the upper right corner of the photo
side only. the photo has been trimmed on the right side but
this does not affect any of the autographs as seen.
there is a natural ink smear at the beginning of paul's "p",
obviously occurring upon paul's pen hitting the card.

paul and linda mCcartney were bandmates with denny in wings
from 1971 through 1979, but here at the plaza ballroom
in july of 1963, denny led the diplomats, taking their peroxide
blonde hair, mock crocodile skinned suits and
silver painted winkle picker shoes to gigs.

this in indeed a fascinating and beautifully signed beatles
autograph set, one that has a bit of history to it on both sides.
