DESCRIPTION In 1962, Dezo Hoffman received a letter from a fan sent to the Record Mirror, a publication at which Dezo was a staff photographer, bitterly complaining that the press was ignoring the “fab” group in Liverpool called THE BEATLES. Consequently, he went to Liverpool and took his first pictures of the “smart but rather subdued” group of four young men. During their meteoric rise in popularity, THE BEATLES hired Dezo Hoffman to be their first professional photographer. He would go on to chronicle their experiences and as a firsthand participant, captured some of the most bold, imaginative and sensitive images ever produced of THE BEATLES. Dezo took more shots of the group, and was closer to them, than almost any other photographer. He covered nearly every major event in their career, often being the only photographer present. THIS 6" X 8" EXAMPLE HAS BEEN SIGNED BY THE GROUP CIRCA LATE 1963, and is considered rarer than an authentically signed collarless suit session "fan club card", also shot by dezo hoffman. WHEN THESE PUBLICITY PHOTOS DO SURFACE AND ARE SIGNED, THE SIGNATURES ARE USUALLY THOSE OF EITHER BEATLES ROAD MANAGER NEIL ASPINALL OR BEATLES ASSISTANT MAL EVANS. the photo was snapped at russell square, bloomsbury, london, on july 2, 1963. this location was one of many that day, as dezo had named the day's shoot as "a day in the life of the beatles". the large garden square in bloomsbury, is in the london borough of camden. THE BEATLES HAVE SIGNED IN BLUE BALLPOINT NEAR THEIR RESPECTIVE IMAGE, AND ARE EXCELLENT EXAMPLES FROM THIS PERIOD. the photograph and signatures are in brilliant near mint condition. ACCOMPANIED BY LETTERS OF AUTHENTICITY FROM FRANK CAIAZZO. MR. CAIAZZO is considered to be the world's leading authority on Beatles signed and handwritten material. HIS articles have appeared IN SEVERAL books and magazines including "Autograph Collector" and "Beatlology". HE has served as consultant to several major auction houses including Sotheby's New York and London, Christie's, Bonhams, AND TO numerous smaller auction companies and autograph dealers worldwide.
