the private collection of
STUART SUTCLIFFE, The bEATLES' original bassist still holds a spot as the “fifth Beatle” and, in his own right, has secured acclaim as an artist and poet before his untimely passing - he was only 21 when he died in 1962 from bleeding in the brain.

The composite ink sketch shows a self-portrait of Sutcliffe and a portrait of his girlfriend Astrid Kirchherr inside a heart, with a silhouette of the couple walking hand in hand apparently on a beach, with Sutcliffe writing at the top, “I love you Astrid, with all my heart and soul. Stuart.” On the reverse of the sketch, Sutcliffe has written, “Melancholy me.”
THIS PRESENTATION IS Archivally double glass matted and framed (both sides visible) with a signed photo of Kirchherr, as well as a portrait of Sutcliffe, taken and printed by Kirchherr from her original circa 1960-61 negative, and signed on the reverse in pencil by KirchherR.

ISSUED EXCLUSIVELY BY MORRISON HOTEL GALLERY, 2007
ONLY 25 PRODUCED. THIS IS NUMBER 6/25.
Robert Whitaker happened to meet the Beatles on their 1964 Australian tour when he accompanied one of his journalist friends to an interview with the band’s manager, Brian Epstein. The photo he took during that meeting resulted in Epstein offering him the position of staff photographer at NEMS, where he worked with all of the artists. During his time working with the Beatles, Whitaker became extremely close with the band, photographing them onstage, as well as in quiet moments at homE.
Whitaker's most celebrated work is the 1966 photo which was appropriated for The Beatles' infamous "Yesterday and Today" album cover, which was briefly released in the U.S. in JUNE 1966 but hastily PULLED OFF THE SHELVES AND RECALLED BY CAPITOL RECORDS.
