  MEET THE BEATLES!
CAPITOL ST-2047 STEREO
RELEASED: 1/20/64
EAST COAST, #3 COVER
FIRST LABEL VARIATION

(ACTUAL IMAGES)

RAREST & MOST OBSCURE OF ALL "MEET THE BEATLES!" LABEL VARIATIONS. ALTHOUGH IT IS NOT KNOWN EXACTLY WHEN CAPITOL BEGAN SHRINK-WRAPPING ITS ALBUMS, VISUAL EVIDENCE INDICATES THAT "MEET THE BEATLES!" WAS NOT SHRINK-WRAPPED WHEN IT WAS INITIALLY ISSUED ON JANUARY 20, 1964. DURING THE END CREDITS OF "THE BEATLES FIRST U.S. VISIT" DOCUMENTARY, WHICH WAS FILMED IN EARLY FEBRUARY 1964, FANS ARE SHOWN PURCHASING COPIES OF THE ALBUM IN A NEW YORK RECORD STORE. THE ALBUMS ARE NOT IN ANY PROTECTIVE BAG OR SHRINK-WRAP. WHILE MANY RECORD RETAILERS DISPLAYED THE ALBUM WITHOUT PROTECTION, SOME STORES PLACED THE JACKETS IN LOOSE POLY BAGS.

BEING OFFERED HERE IS AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF HOW EAST COAST FIRST PRESSINGS WERE PACKAGED BY INDEPENDENT DEPARTMENT STORES:

THE ACCOMPANYING MINT MINUS COVER IS WRAPPED IN ITS ORIGINAL & RARE "IN-STORE STEREO BAGGY WRAP" WHICH STATES: "THIS IS A STEREO RECORD TO BE PLAYED ONLY ON STEREO PHONOGRAPHS".

THIS COVER ITSELF IS VIRTUALLY IMPECCABLE AND GRADED MINT MINUS! PEERING CAREFULLY UNDER THE BAGGYWRAP, THE COVER LOOKS AS THOUGH IT CAME OUT OF THE FACTORY YESTERDAY! BORDERS ARE "SNOW" WHITE. BACK COVER IS PERFECTION!

IT IS INDEED THE RAREST TO ACQUIRE - PARTICULARLY IN THIS GREAT CONDITION. VINYL AND LABELS ARE A GLOSSY NEAR MINT. WITH VERY MINIMAL PLAY EVIDENT, IT IS SO DIFFICULT FINDING THIS VERY EARLY PRESSING IN SUCH EXCELLENT CONDITION!

NO DOUBT THESE EARLY COPIES WERE SWEPT OFF THE SHELVES DURING THE THE ONSLAUGHT OF BEATLEMANIA AND MOST HAVE BEEN PLAYED BEYOND RECOGNITION AND TOSSED OUT. TODAY, ONLY ABOUT 20 TO 25 EXAMPLES HAVE BEEN VERIFIED SO FAR TO SURVIVE AND OF THOSE ONLY ABOUT 12 STEREO COPIES HAVE BEEN VERIFIED. MOST OF THOSE COPIES ARE IN VG OR LESS CONDITION. THIS EXAMPLE IS A VERY HIGH GRADE, ULTRA RARE STEREO EXAMPLE OF THIS VERY HISTORIC ALBUM!

MOST VITAL STATISTIC IS THAT SINCE ONLY FIFTEEN PERCENT OF CAPITOL'S BEATLES ALBUMS MANUFACTURED PRIOR TO 1966 WERE STEREO, IMAGINE THE SCARCITY OF THE FIRST LABEL (NO PUBLISHING CREDITS) STEREO PRESSINGS!!

WITH ORIGINAL 1ST ISSUE ROYAL BLUE INNER SLEEVE.

CONDITION: M- / NM
ITEM#: LP195
PRICE: $3,500

FIRST LABEL VARIATION

(ACTUAL IMAGES)

BEING OFFERED HERE IS ANOTHER RARE EXAMPLE OF A STEREO FIRST LABEL VARIATION, AND HOW EAST COAST FIRST PRESSINGS WERE PACKAGED BY INDEPENDENT DEPARTMENT STORES. THE ACCOMPANYING NEAR MINT COVER IS WRAPPED IN ITS ORIGINAL & RARE "IN-STORE BAGGY WRAP".

ADHERED TO THE UPPER LEFT CORNER OF THE FRONT COVER BAGGY WRAP IS AN ITEM OF HISTORICAL IMPLICATION THAT HAS NOT ONLY THE PRICE, BUT THE DATE "1-64" THAT STIPULATES WHEN THE ALBUM WAS RECEIVED IN STOCK, JANUARY 1964 - THE PERFECT TIMELINE WHEN THESE FIRST LABEL VARIATIONS WERE ISSUED. THE BAGGY HAS A 2" SPLIT ON THE SPINE WITH NO AFFECT TO THE COVER AT ALL.

THE RECORD is a spectacular Near Mint Minus and appears to have had VERY MINIMAL play. The grooves retain their shine and gleam, WITH JUST TWO SUPERFICIAL LIGHT MARKS EVIDENT. Labels are a beautiful Near Mint, WITH LIGHT SOME SPINDLE "SPIDER" MARKS AROUND THE HOLE ON SIDE ONE.
