Meet The
Beatles
Capitol ST-2047 Stereo, 1/20/64
FIRST LABEL VARIATION
RAREST
& MOST OBSCURE OF ALL
"MEET THE BEATLES" LABEL VARIATIONS

Since only ten percent of
Capitol's Beatles albums manufactured prior to 1967 were Stereo,
imagine
the scarcity of the First Label (No publishing credits) STEREO pressings !!
It
is indeed the RAREST TO ACQUIRE - particularly
in this fine condition. Vinyl
and Labels are a
terrific Near Mint Minus (borders VG+++) with high-sheen grooves
remaining.
This First Pressing is rarely found in this condition ! ALTHOUGH IT IS NOT
KNOWN EXACTLY WHEN CAPITOL BEGAN SHRINK-WRAPPING
ITS ALBUMS, VISUAL EVIDENCE INDICATES THAT MEET THE BEATLES!
WAS
NOT SHRINK-WRAPPED WHEN IT WAS INITIALLY ISSUED ON JANUARY 20, 1964.
DURING THE END CREDITS OF THE FIRST U.S. VISIT DOCUMENTARY,
WHICH
WAS FILMED IN EARLY FEBRUARY 1964, FANS ARE SHOWN PURCHASING
COPIES OF THE
ALBUM IN A NEW YORK RECORD STORE. THE ALBUMS ARE NOT
IN ANY PROTECTIVE BAG
OR SHRINK-WRAP. WHILE MANY RECORD
RETAILERS DISPLAYED THE ALBUM WITHOUT
PROTECTION, SOME STORES
PLACED THE JACKETS IN LOOSE POLY BAGS.
BEING OFFERED HERE
IS AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF HOW EAST COAST
FIRST PRESSINGS WERE
PACKAGED BY INDEPENDENT DEPARTMENT STORES :
THE
ACCOMPANYING MINT MINUS COVER IS
WRAPPED IN THE ORIGINAL & RARE
IN-STORE
DISTRIBUTOR LEVEL "BAGGY WRAP"

The Cover, protected all these
years by the poly-bag, is simply flawless
and bright with bold colors and the back cover is snow-white.

A add highlight to this wonderful
set, is something one NEVER sees.
It is an actual and original CAPITOL RECORDS PACKING SLIP
that was mistakenly left loosely inside on the front, when the Cover was
originally sealed in the poly-bag !!

Blue inner sleeve. |

BEATLEMANIA !
With The
Beatles
Capitol Records of
CANADA , T-6051 Mono, 12/2/63

When word spread to
North America of The Beatles phenomenal success overseas,
Capitol of
Canada decided to release the Beatles second British LP,
With The
Beatles. The label altered the front cover of the album by adding
favorable
quotes and retitling the record Beatlemania! With The Beatles.
This LP holds the distinction of being
the FIRST Beatles album released
in North America (2 December
1963), preceding
Vee-Jay's "Introducing The Beatles" and Capitol's "Meet The
Beatles"

The back cover of the
Canadian release is essentially the same as that of the British LP,
with
both featuring the same liner notes by Tony Barrow.
Beatlemania ! was
issued as part of the label's "6000 Series",
which concentrated on pop albums, and was assigned number T-6051.
The LP was ONLY ISSUED IN MONO.

Unlike Vee-Jay and
Capitol in the U.S., Capitol of Canada did not delete any songs
from the
British album. Thus, Canadian purchasers were treated to all fourteen songs !
The condition of
this cover is a lovely Near Mint Minus, with a dark, bold cover.
No
ring-wear at all in the center of the black graphic area !! The back
cover has a very small
spot of age, yet clean of wear. The Labels and
Vinyl are in
Stellar Mint UNPLAYED condition ! Superb example !!
Collectors of Capitol releases,
especially that of the
MEET THE BEATLES Lp would complete the series with
this
GREAT and UNIQUE
Capitol of Canada release !!

The condition of
this cover is a very strong VG++ , an outstanding dark, bold cover.
No ring-wear
at all in the center of the black graphic area !! Only wear is slight balding in two corners.
The back
cover has very little aging, yet clean of
wear. The Labels and Vinyl are a vibrant Near Mint,
and
appears to have been played once or twice. Just great. !

TWIST AND SHOUT
Capitol Records of
CANADA , T-6054 Mono,
2/3/64
IN THE SHRINKWRAP !

Capitol of Canada's second Beatles album TWIST
AND SHOUT
was also issued as part of the label's "6000 Series",
which concentrated on pop albums, and was assigned number T-6054.
The LP was ONLY ISSUED IN MONO and features
twelve of the fourteen songs
from the first British LP release "Please
Please Me", plus the A sides of the two
previously released singles
"From Me To You" and "She Loves You".
The album's front cover is fantastic
-featuring the same black & white photo that was used
for the group's
"Twist And Shot" EP on Parlophone.

The back cover has extensive liner notes on
the group and its members,
the often-used Dezo Hoffmann portrait that appears
on the picture sleeve
"I Want To Hold Your Hand", a miniature
picture of the first Canadian
release "Beatlemania!" Lp, and the
track listing.

ACTUAL PHOTOS OF THIS
ITEM :

The condition on this great album is a
brilliant NEAR MINT cover, which remains in the
ORIGINAL SHRINKWRAP. It is so very clean and bright.
Just a corner tear of the shrink on
the back cover in the bottom left corner.
Simply STUNNING overall.
The Record is a vibrant
Mint Minus, and appears UNPLAYED ! Truly a glorious Vinyl,
and the Labels are like NEW ! Clean and shiny.

LONG TALL SALLY
Capitol Records of
CANADA , T-6063 Mono, 4/27/64

Capitol of Canada's third Beatles album LONG
TALL SALLY
was also issued as part of the label's "6000 Series",
which concentrated on pop albums, and was assigned number T-6063.
The LP was ONLY ISSUED IN MONO and features
twelve tracks.
The record opens with I Want To Hold Your Hand b/w I
Saw Her Standing There,
both making their Canadian album debut. The final
three selections, This Boy,
I'll Get You and You Can't Do That were B-Sides of singles
that had
not previously appeared on a Canadian album.

The album cover
features the same basic layout as that of the U.S. version
The
Beatles' Second Album. The back cover layout is the same,
except for different text :

The condition on the cover is a
beautiful NEAR MINT, which is completely clean -
no ring-wear, no
dirt, no splits. GORGEOUS ! The Record is a brilliant Near Mint,
and truly a lovely vinyl,
with labels that are clean and shiny.

FIRST ISSUE OF
3rd REVISED STEREO
LABEL
MIS-SPELLED "I
CALL YOU NAME"
WITHOUT running time on Track 2,
Side 2 only !
(NOT
DOCUMENTED IN BRUCE SPIZER'S "CAPITOL ALBUM" BOOK)

The initial 1st run
labels for this LP (which are the most commonly found) do not
have the running times for "Long Tall Sally" or "I Call
Your Name" on Side 2.
But after Capitol received the tapes for these two tracks,
the company revised the label copy by adding the times for the two songs
!!
When the
BMI credit replaced the ASCAP credit for the song "I Call Your
Name",
Capitol once again revised its label copy - BUT
ONLY ON THE STEREO Labels !!
The printer for the East Coast Stereo label not only changed
ASCAP to
BMI after "I Call Your Name", but also dropped the
running
song for the song. Thus, the Stereo variation has the
running time for "Long Tall Sally" -
but NOT
"I Call Your Name".
BUT
WAIT !! THESE REVISED LABELS HAVE "I CALL YOUR NAME"
MIS-PRINTED AS "I CALL YOU
NAME" ! THIS LABEL WAS JUST
RECENTLY DISCOVERED - AND NOT DOCUMENTED IN
BRUCE SPIZER'S GREAT BOOK "THE CAPITOL ALBUMS".
When the error
was realized, Capitol corrected the song title, and once again
printed another revised label, still without the running time on "I
Call Your Name"
(SEE NEXT ITEM # LP601 BELOW).
The #3 Scranton Cover is
in stupendous LIKE NEW Mint Minus condition,
and still remains in the original SHRINKWRAP. The Record is UNPLAYED
MINT -
a STELLAR example. The previous owner added the
running time of "2:08" for
"I Call You Name" in black pencil after the BMI credit,
which does not detract and is hardly noticeable :
(ACTUAL SCAN OF
LABEL)

One cannot get much better than this for an early 1964 STEREO Beatles
