The RAREST of the Vee-Jay Beatles
albums is the
second and VERY LIMITED pressing of
THE BEATLES & FRANK IFIELD ON STAGE.
Because of poor sales on the original release JOLLY WHAT ! ,
the solution was to repackage the album in such a way as to focus
on
the album's strengths and downplay its weaknesses.
The reissue cover features the
striking portrait of the Beatles
previously used on the Love Me Do picture sleeve.
The Beatles songs are prominently listed on the cover.
There are both Mono and STEREO
versions of this cover,
which is known among Collectors as the "PORTRAIT COVER".
Both use the same liner notes slick from
the first issue of JOLLY WHAT !
This STEREO version of this album
is one of the RAREST and
MOST COLLECTIBLE of all Beatles records !
THE CONDITION OF THE Cover ON THIS MEGA-RARE
RELEASE
DISPLAYS BEAUTIFULLY, HAS VERY MINIMAL HANDLING WEAR AND IS
GRADED as Near Mint Minus, bordering VG+++, WITH No ringwear
to be found anywhere. THE COLORS, TONE AND GRAPHICS REMAIN
VIBRANT, rich, bold AND CRISP.
(ACTUAL IMAGES)

THERE ARE NO SPLITS TO ANY OF THE SEAMS
AT ALL. THERE IS Slight shelf wear TO THE bottom edge,
but mainly on left corner area. THERE IS A "TOUCH" OF
WEAR TO THE TOP SEAM AND As found on most of these
Covers, THERE IS THE TYPICAL slight tip wear on the corners.

THE Back
Cover remains "WHITE" AND free of ringwear.
THERE ARE light and sporadic aging spots present,
YET mainly evident on THE upper area.

The Spine
is absolutely solid and the printing is legible throughout.
THE ENTIRE COVER LAYS COMPLETELY FLAT AND TOTALLY SQUARE.

THE
COVER IS accompanied by ITS SPARKLING Near Mint MINUS
ALL BLACK LABEL Stereo record, WITH
"STEREO" at THE 9 O'clock position
(VJ1085.SR3,Spizer) :

THE ORIGINAL VEE-JAY "AD BACK" INNER SLEEVE IS ALSO PRESENT.

Unfortunately, no documents
regarding the portrait cover
have surfaced. What is known is that this album is EXTREMELY RARE.
In all likelihood, only a few thousand Mono and a few hundred STEREO copies
were sold. Isn't it ironic that an album Vee-Jay could not give away
in 1964 has become so sought after by Collectors attracted to its
beautiful cover and colorful history ? Due to the albums poor sales
performance, even the Mono version of the portrait cover is
difficult to find and commands a high price among Collectors.
The Stereo Portrait Cover
and the Stereo Ad Back
(also available from Fab 4 Collectibles ),
are the two key records needed to complete any
serious collection of the Beatles American records.
