VEE-JAY VJLP 1062 MONAURAL
RELEASED: 1/10/64
VERSION 1

"BLANK BACK"
RARER VARIATION WITH AD BACK "PRINTED IN USA" FRONT SLICK AND RECORD WITH 45 SIZE LABEL WITH OVAL LOGO

THE SECOND VARIATION OF THE "INTRODUCING THE BEATLES" BACK COVER IS A GLOSSY BLANK WHITE SLICK AND KNOWN AMONG COLLECTORS AS THE "BLANK BACK" COVER. SOME BELIEVE THAT THESE COVERS MAY BE THE RESULT OF A PRODUCTION ERROR, OR PERHAPS THAT VEE-JAY USED THESE COVERS FOR PROMOTIONAL ISSUES OF THE LP. THE CORRECT HISTORICAL FACT IS THAT THE BLANK BACK WAS A LIMITED AND SHORT TRANSITIONAL RUN THAT WAS A SUBSTITUTION AFTER ALL AD BACK SLICKS HAD BEEN USED, BUT JUST PRIOR TO THE RECEIPT OF THE THIRD BACK COVER THAT LISTED THE SONG TITLES.

OFFERED HERE IS THE RARER VARIATION OF THE VERSION ONE MONO "BLANK BACK", THIS BEING THE FIRST COPY WE HAVE OFFERED. THIS IS ONE OF THE LAST OF THE MONO "AD BACK" FRONT COVER SLICKS UTILIZED, DICTATED BY THE "PRINTED IN USA" SMALL PRINT, RUNNING VERTICALLY ALONG THE LEFT SIDE OF THE JACKET ONE TO TWO INCHES FROM THE LOWER LEFT CORNER OF THE FRONT COVER.

  "INTRODUCING THE BEATLES"
VEE-JAY VJLP 1062 MONAURAL
RELEASED: 1/10/64
VERSION 1

"BLANK BACK"

OFFERED HERE IS THE VERY BEST AND EXEMPLARY EXAMPLE OF THE ULTRA-RARE VERSION ONE MONO "BLANK BACK" WE HAVE EVER ACQUIRED, THIS BEING ONLY THE SECOND COPY WE HAVE OFFERED.

THE ORIGINAL ACCOMPANYING VERSION ONE RECORD FEATURES THE  LABEL VARIATION WITH THE COLORBAND AND OVAL LOGO (VJ1062(1).MR1A, SPIZER). THE CONDITION OF THIS RECORD IS A MAGNIFICENT AND STELLAR MINT UNPLAYED JEWEL.

  "INTRODUCING THE BEATLES"
VEE-JAY VJLP 1062 MONO, RELEASED: 2/10/64
VERSION 2

"PASTE OVER" BACK COVER ALSO WITH
"PLEASE PLEASE ME" WITHOUT COMMA

AFTER THE DECISION WAS MADE TO REISSUE THE ALBUM WITH THE TWO DIFFERENT SONGS, VEE-JAY STILL HAD A SUPPLY OF MONO VERSION ONE COVERS LEFT OVER. RATHER THAN DESTROY THESE COVERS, VEE-JAY HAD VERSION TWO "PLEASE PLEASE ME" BACK COVER SLICKS PASTED OVER THE VERSION ONE BACK COVER SLICKS.

ONE CAN CLEARLY SEE THE VERSION ONE SONG TITLES BENEATH THE PASTED OVER REVISED SLICK, IN PARTICULAR "LOVE ME DO" AND "P.S. I LOVE YOU" BLEEDING THROUGH THE TWO REPLACEMENT TITLES "ASK ME WHY" AND "PLEASE PLEASE ME".  INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH, CAPITOL RECORDS USED THIS SAME TECHNIQUE TWO AND A HALF YEARS LATER WHEN IT HAD THE REPLACEMENT YESTERDAY AND TODAY  TRUNK COVER SLICK PASTED OVER THE INFAMOUS BUTCHER COVER. THIS EXAMPLE HAS YET ANOTHER RARE HIGHLIGHT. THE SLICK THAT HAS BEEN PASTED OVER IS INDEED THE VERY FIRST SLICK PRINTED THAT FEATURES THE REPLACEMENT SONG "PLEASE PLEASE ME" WITHOUT THE COMMA FOLLOWING THE FIRST "PLEASE".

THE BEATLES & FRANK IFIELD ON STAGE
"PORTRAIT" COVER

VEE-JAY VJ 1085, MONO
RELEASED: 9/18/64

THE RAREST OF THE VEE-JAY BEATLES ALBUMS IS THE SECOND AND "VERY LIMITED" PRESSING OF "THE BEATLES & FRANK IFIELD ON STAGE". BECAUSE OF POOR SALES ON THE ORIGINAL RELEASE "JOLLY WHAT!", THE SOLUTION WAS TO REPACKAGE THE ALBUM IN SUCH A WAY AS TO FOCUS ON THE ALBUM'S STRENGTHS AND DOWNPLAY ITS WEAKNESSES. THE REISSUE COVER FEATURES THE STRIKING PORTRAIT OF THE BEATLES PREVIOUSLY USED ON VEE-JAY'S SUBSIDIARY TOLLIE LABEL, THE "LOVE ME DO" PICTURE SLEEVE.

THIS MONAURAL "PORTRAIT" COVER GRADES AN EXCELLENT NEAR MINT MINUS, BORDERING SLIGHTLY ON A SUPERB VG+++, AND IS ACCOMPANIED BY THE ORIGINAL "THE BEATLES AND FRANK IFIELD ON STAGE" MONO RECORD. THIS LABEL VARIATION HAS THE COLORBAND AND BRACKETS LOGO. THE ORIGINAL VEE-JAY "AD BACK" INNER SLEEVE IS ALSO INCLUDED.

THIS ALBUM IS EXTREMELY RARE. IN ALL LIKELIHOOD, ONLY A FEW THOUSAND MONO AND A FEW HUNDRED STEREO COPIES WERE SOLD. DUE TO THE ALBUMS POOR SALES PERFORMANCE, EVEN THE MONO VERSION OF THE PORTRAIT COVER IS DIFFICULT TO FIND AND COMMANDS A HIGH PRICE AMONG COLLECTORS.

CAPITOL RECORDS
RELEASED: JULY 1964

CAPITOL RECORDS WAS INVOLVED IN A BEATLES TIE-IN WITH THE POPULAR MOTEL CHAIN HOLIDAY INN, AND PREPARED A PROMOTIONAL FLYERS, PROMOTING HOLIDAY INN AND THE BEATLES. THERE ARE ONLY ABOUT 125 EXAMPLES OF THIS RARE FLYER KNOWN TO EXIST. OF THOSE 125, ONLY A VERY FEW HAVE BEEN FOUND IN ITS 14½" X 8½" ORIGINAL UNFOLDED STATE. THIS EXAMPLE IS CAPITOL'S TRIMMED 7" X 7" EXAMPLE AND HAS BEEN FOLDED AND STORED FOR THE LAST 53 YEARS. IT IS IN UNCIRCULATED, UN-STAPLED, MINT  "AS NEW" CONDITION. UNITED ARTISTS UA-750
RELEASED SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 1964
PICTURE SLEEVE & ACCOMPANYING ULTRA-RARE 45 SINGLE

ACCOMPANYING DISC IS THE UNCONFIRMED STORE STOCK COPY, WITH "GEORGE MARTIN & HIS ORCHESTRA" ON ONE LINE IN SMALL PRINT WITH "ORCHESTRA" SPELLED OUT IN FULL.

THE SECOND GEORGE MARTIN SINGLE (UA-750) IS ONE OF THE RARER BEATLES SLEEVES AVAILABLE, FOR IT'S LOW NUMBERS ARE DUE TO UNITED ARTIST'S VERY LIMITED PRESS RUN, AND VERY FEW OF THE 45'S WERE ISSUED IN THIS VERY ATTRACTIVE PICTURE SLEEVE.

DUE TO THE COLORS UTILIZED OF THE UA750 SLEEVE, THESE ARE NOTORIOUS FOR WEAR, AND USUALLY FOUND IN HORRENDOUS CONDITION. YET THIS ONE BEING OFFERED (NEAR MINT MINUS) IS THE VERY BEST EXAMPLE THAT WE HAVE EVER ACQUIRED AND OFFERED OF THE "AIRPORT SLEEVE" (AS IT IS KNOWN AMONG COLLECTORS).

THE STOCK COPY DISC IS AN ABSOLUTE AND VITAL COUP - AND UNTIL NOW HAD BEEN DEEMED UNCONFIRMED AS EVER BEING PRODUCED. IT IS THE COLUMBIA RECORDS PRESSING SMALL PRINT VARIATION, THAT WAS ONLY ISSUED AS THE WHITE LABEL PROMOTIONAL COPY (ALSO AVAILABLE FROM FAB 4 COLLECTIBLES). THIS IS THE VERY FIRST STOCK COPY WE HAVE KNOWN TO SURFACE.

WMCA GOOD GUYS / "I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND"
C
APITOL RECORDS PROMOTIONAL 45RPM PICTURE SLEEVE
ISSUED: JANUARY 1964

THESE PROMOTIONAL SLEEVES WERE PAIRED WITH COPIES OF THE CAPITOL SINGLE "I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND" AND GIVEN TO LISTENERS AS PRIZES IN THE NEW YORK CITY STATION WMCA BEATLES WIG CONTEST. CONTESTANTS WERE INSTRUCTED TO TAKE PHOTOS OF THEIR FRIENDS OR FROM NEWSPAPERS AND TO DRAW BEATLES WIGS ON THEM. THE TWO MOST ORIGINAL ENTRIES WERE ALSO AWARDED $57 FROM RADIO 57, WMCA.

THE PRODUCTION RUN FOR THE WMCA SLEEVE WAS EXTREMELY LIMITED. ACCORDING TO BEATLES EXPERT AND AUTHOR PERRY COX, THERE ARE LESS THAN TEN COPIES OF THIS SLEEVE THAT ARE STILL KNOWN TO EXIST.

ALONG SIDE VEE-JAY'S "ASK ME WHY" PROMOTIONAL TITLE SLEEVE, THE  WMCA GOOD GUYS CUSTOM SLEEVE, HAS UNDOUBTEDLY BECOME ONE THE RAREST AND MOST VALUABLE OF ALL BEATLES RECORD SLEEVES AMONG THE COLLECTOR'S WORLD.

THE CONDITION OF THIS EXAMPLE IS NO DOUBT ONE OF THE FINEST THAT HAVE SURVIVED.

"PLEASE PLEASE ME"  B/W  "ASK ME WHY"
VEE-JAY 498
RELEASED: 2/20/63

"BEATTLES" (TWO-T), RAREST VERSION: "#498"

THE FIRST RECORD RELEASED IN THE UNITED STATES TO BEAR THE BEATLES NAME WAS VJ 498, WHICH WAS RELEASED ON OR ABOUT FEBRUARY 20, 1963.

VEE-JAY WASN'T QUITE SURE WHAT IT HAD WITH THE BEATLES, AND INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH, VEE-JAY DID NOT EVEN KNOW HOW TO SPELL THE GROUP'S NAME. ALL INITIAL ISSUES OF THE RECORD ADDED AN EXTRA "T" TO THE NAME. IT IS THE MOST SOUGHT AFTER AS COLLECTORS ARE ATTRACTED TO THE NOVELTY OF THE MISSPELLED NAME, AND TO THE RECORD'S STATUS AS THE FIRST BEATLES RECORD ISSUED IN THE U.S.

OF THE THREE MISSPELLED LABEL VARIATIONS, THIS ONE WHICH HAS THE "#" SIGN PRECEDING THE RECORD NUMBER IS THE RAREST OF ALL.

ACCOMPANIED BY ITS OWN ORIGINAL VEE-JAY 1963 GENERIC SLEEVE.

VEE-JAY 498
RELEASED: 2/20/63

"BEATLES" CORRECTED (ONE-T), RAREST VERSION: " #498 "
COLORBAND WITH OVAL LOGO.

VEE-JAY EVENTUALLY REALIZED ITS MISTAKE OF MISSPELLING THE GROUP'S NAME, SO THE NEXT ISSUE OF THE RECORD CORRECTED THE ERROR. THIS LABEL VARIATION IS THE RAREST OF ALL VEE-JAY 498 CORRECTED LABELS, WHICH HAS THE "#" SIGN PRECEDING THE RECORD NUMBER, AND A CRUDE ATTEMPT TO FIX THE MISSPELLED NAME.

ACCOMPANIED BY ITS OWN ORIGINAL VEE-JAY 1963 GENERIC SLEEVE.

THE BEATLES & FRANK IFIELD ON STAGE
"PORTRAIT" COVER

VEE-JAY VJS 1085, STEREO, RELEASED 9/18/64

Because of poor sales on the original release "JOLLY WHAT !", The reissue cover features the striking portrait of the Beatles Previously used on the VEE-JAY 45 SINGLE "Love Me Do" picture sleeve. The Beatles songs are prominently listed on the cover. There are both Mono and STEREO versions of this cover, which AGAIN, is known among Collectors as the "PORTRAIT COVER".

This STEREO version of this album is one of the RAREST and MOST COLLECTIBLE of all Beatles records, AND FAB 4 COLLECTIBLES IS QUITE HONORED TO NOW OFFER THIS UNBELIEVABLE STILL SEALED WORLD-CLASS MAJESTIC EXAMPLE OF THIS ULTRA-RARE VEE-JAY RELEASE.

A STILL SEALED COPY OF THE STEREO "PORTRAIT" COVER BRINGS THE RARITY OF IT TO ANOTHER STRATOSPHERE - BEING ONLY THE SECOND SEALED COPY TO HAVE EVER SURFACED.  WITHOUT RESERVATION, IT IS CONSIDERED TO BE THE RAREST STILL SEALED ORIGINAL BEATLES ALBUM IN EXISTENCE.

THE BEATLES VS. THE FOUR SEASONS
VEE-JAY DXS-30, STEREO, RELEASED: 10/1/64
GATEFOLD COVER WITH POSTER

THIS CLASSIC VEE-JAY DOUBLE ALBUM SET THAT INCLUDES THE BEATLES "INTRODUCING THE BEATLES" (VJLP SR 1062) RECORD, ALONG WITH THE FOUR SEASONS'  "GOLDEN HITS OF THE FOUR SEASONS" (VJLP SR 1065) ALBUM, WAS VEE-JAY'S CONCEPT TO REPACKAGE THESE "ALREADY RELEASED" ALBUMS. BUT COLLECTORS TODAY COULDN'T BE HAPPIER AS THEY NOW HAVE ONE OF THE MOST COLORFUL AND ELABORATE BEATLES HISTORIC ALBUM COLLECTIBLES OF ALL TIME.

VEE-JAY DOCUMENTS SHOW THAT ONLY 725 COPIES OF THE STEREO PRESSING WERE MANUFACTURED AND DISTRIBUTED TO THE PUBLIC IN 1964, SO IT IS NOT SURPRISING THAT THE STEREO VERSION OF THIS ALBUM IS QUITE A HERALDED RARITY.

THIS ULTRA RARE STILL SEALED STEREO PRESSING OF THIS CLASSIC VEE-JAY DOUBLE ALBUM SET IS A WORLD CLASS EXAMPLE, AND TO OUR KNOWLEDGE IS THE FIRST SEALED COPY THAT HAS SURFACED TO DATE.

  "INTRODUCING THE BEATLES"
VEE-JAY, VJLP SR1062 STEREO, RELEASED: 1/10/64
VERSION 1 - WITH "LOVE ME DO" & "P.S. I LOVE YOU"
STEREOPHONIC "AD BACK"

IN ITS FIRST INCARNATION OF THIS TITLE, THE BACK COVER SERVES AS AN ADVERTISEMENT FOR 25 OF VEE-JAY'S "OTHER FINE ALBUMS OF SIGNIFICANT INTEREST", THUS BEING TAGGED THE "AD BACK" COVER AMONG THE COLLECTOR'S WORLD. IN ADDITION, THE VERY FIRST FRONT COVER SLICKS USED FOR THE ALBUM ARE EASILY IDENTIFIABLE AS THEY HAVE "PRINTED IN U.S.A." RUNNING VERTICALLY ALONG THE LEFT SIDE OF THE FRONT JACKET ONE TO TWO INCHES FROM THE LOWER LEFT CORNER.

IN ALL LIKELIHOOD, NO MORE THAN 5,000 AD BACK COVERS WERE MADE. BECAUSE ONLY 2,202 STEREO COPIES OF VERSION ONE WERE MANUFACTURED, THE NUMBER OF STEREO AD BACKS IS OBVIOUSLY VERY LIMITED, AND ONE THING IS CERTAIN: THE STEREO "AD BACK" IS EXTREMELY RARE. IT HAS BEEN ESTIMATED THAT LESS THAN ONE THOUSAND STEREO COPIES WERE MANUFACTURED, WITH LESS THAN A HANDFUL SURVIVING TO THIS DAY.

THE CONDITION OF THIS STUNNING, STELLAR AND BOLD "AD BACK COVER IS A SPLENDID NEAR MINT AND REMAINS IN THE ORIGINAL 'SEARS ROEBUCK AND CO.' IN-STORE BAGGY WRAP.
